Hi, I'm Soph!

I’m a molecular biologist turned science communicator who brings science stories to life with words, on screen and through sound.

Growing up, I always loved being creative whether that was painting wall art for my bedroom, making fancy dress costumes, sketching a new kite design or writing plays. But that didn’t seem to fit with my other passion for science. It wasn’t until half way through my PhD in stem cell biology that I discovered a career path where I could combine my curiosity for learning about the science topics I loved with this want to flex my creative muscles.

With my scientific training and digital media know-how, I have a rare ability to translate intricate, jargon-heavy science into fun and engaging content that appeals to a wide range of audiences.

By day, I am currently the Communications and Public Engagement Manager for a medical research organisation in Cambridge, and have previously worked with others in Cambridge and London. I have translated their science research into over 100 articles, videos and science content of understandable stories, and brought it to life in projects and events.

By night, I also partner with ambitious brands & organisations looking to connect with curious people. I produce videos, podcasts, and written pieces about all kinds of science. I can serve as executive producer, writer, host, videographer, editor, or all of the above.

I also provide training to scientists, conference keynotes, and lectures and workshops on science communication at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Over the past 7 years, I have used social media and my blog as a way to chat about fascinating science through words, images and videos where I was one of the leaders in the UK to use platforms such as Instagram to share more about science. I am also currently working on a passion project of mine –  a book proposal!

Meet the Soph talks science team

No mission can be successful without an incredible team. That’s why I choose these two every time! Harley & Quinn joined the STS team in 2020. Two fierce advocates for being curious about the world around us. Harley brings her vast  experience chewing cardboard and always finding a way to do somersaults, and Quinn uses his talents in treat hunting and making sure his spot on my lap is not taken by a laptop.
