Life Lately || 5 Good Things about May

Can somebody please tell me how it is June already? I don’t know about you but I thought time in lockdown would draaagggg, but it seems to be absolutely flying! It’s been two whole months in lockdown and I think this is about week 11 of me working from home too – and I know that isn’t going to change for me anytime soon. That has it’s pros and cons, but we won’t get into that here. Today I want to continue to share a little bit of happiness and positivity amongst the crap that is going on around the world, and I encourage you to do the same! Share something no matter how big or small that happened in the last month in the comments.

Furniture delivery!

We ordered it about 6-8 weeks ago, but our IKEA delivery finally arrived. It is now all assembled and the vast majority of the boxes we still had to unpack from the house move are now unpacked. There is still some sorting to go but we are creeping ever so slowly towards a fully functional home.

The weather!

May has been one of the sunniest Mays on record, and while our garden is desperate from some water. It has been lush to see the sun shining everyday, especially on my infrequent walks around our local country park. But it has prompted me to buy some new shorts, both for normal day to day wear but also for lounging around in lockdown.

Exciting things for the future of Soph talks science

So, I shared last month that I had invested in myself and got myself a coach – one of the good things about saving money from the commute each month. But the first 6 weeks or so in the program has been so incredible. The rest of the group are so inspiring and encouraging that I’ve started to make some progress on how I can push Soph talks science into the future to make some money from and getting some great ideas from the calls I’ve had with people too. So thank you everyone who is helping me with this. It’s terrifying and the imposter syndrome does sink in, but it is exciting that I could help others in some way.

My first IG Live!

I had never done ANY sort of live video before. The thought of it absolutely terrified me as it wasn’t something I could really prepare for and I always like to be prepared with things. But when STEMettes asked me to join them for a Q&A interview, I thought I would push myself out of my comfort zone and I did. I think it didn’t go too badly, in fact I kind of enjoyed it a little but I have plenty to work on for the next time. I have even signed up for my next one – not sure what has gotten into me. You can check it out here – let me know if you have any questions about anything you see, but bear in mind that it was my first one 😛 And to top it all off, one of my science communication role models, Dr Hannah Fry, followed me on social media. I woke up to this and was properly fan-girling for the rest of that day.

The best month on my blog ever!

Another blog goal reached! I smashed my previously blog views by well over 1,000 views from the previous best. Not really sure why this month but I am working on designing this site a little more so more changes coming soon…. This is the latest change I’ve made – check the page out here. But either way, another win this month that I’m celebrating.
