Soph talks science turns 3!

Happy birthday to me.

Happy birthday to me.

Happy birthday to Soph talks science.

Happy birthday to me.

.

Like seriously, how has it been three years already?! It appears I now have a toddler to go alongside my baby aka my PhD thesis.. hah!

But today on this blogiversary, I wanted to write another quick little post to give an absolutely HUGE thank you to every single one of YOU!

The past 12 months of Soph talks science has really been the best I have had yet! I haven’t been able to write as many posts I would like, or as many posts that fulfil all the ideas I have, and of course not as many posts as I think you all deserve for a few different reasons – mainly becoming Dr Soph though! But as I have said in a previous post, it has been an incredible successful year for me building partnerships and collaborations and I am truly truly grateful for every single one. But I really would not have been able to get those opportunities without the support from you guys. All the likes, comments, shares, DMs, followers from over 100 countries around the world and of all ages. I really would not have been able to get as far as I have without all of that from you guys. I’ve said it many times before, but I will say it again – it means so incredibly much to me!

.

So with the start of my fourth year blogging – say what?! – and the end of my life in education, the future for Soph talks science may be changing slightly. I will still be sharing PhD tips and advice for as long as I can and as long as you want it, but there will be more and more career tips, advice and resources being incorporated in which I hope will be just as useful.

I am going to continue my Scientist in the Spotlight features because it is so incredibly important to highlight the diversity of scientists across the globe, but I am pledging to make that even more diverse. I am going to be expanding my science and travel section which is a huge passion of mine and reviving an old favourite the ‘Cellfie of the month’. The gift guides will continue and the Christmas themed posts, the book reviews and the product reviews … which have been building up and up, I now have an overwhelming amount to write about!

But I want to start writing more posts about every day things you encounter and probably give no thought to, but there is actually some really fascinating science behind it – such as the link between attraction and red lips, and why cooking green vegetables makes the colour more vibrant before turning it to that overcooked brown! Why? Because science is all around us and we use it every single day. I think that is amazing and want to share that with all of you.

So, just a few things for the next year and beyond….

.

But in true Soph talks science birthday style, I wouldn’t be celebrating properly if there wasn’t a birthday science post. And don’t worry, this year is no exception – there is one all about balloons coming up shortly! But to get you in the party spirit, you can check out my other birthday themed science posts on how to eat your birthday cake scientifically and also about why we are all getting older!

And in case you’re feeling sentimental you can read my first blogiversary post and second blogiversary posts here where I share the things that blogging has taught me and the journey of how my blog came to be!

.

And that’s a wrap! On this post and on my third year of blogging! It is safe to say I am still in love with doing this and I hope you all want to continue along the journey with me!

Right! Time to blow out this candle, make a wish, open some bubbly and eat cake!
